Synopsis: |
| |
Socially and politically we are living in a confused world today. The state of our beliefs and ideologies is such that on one hand, we are feeling lost and on the other, claustrophic. If one looks back in history, one would come across similar examples of confused social atmosphere, where society was standing at crossroads, unable to decide on the future course with any conviction. Every such situation is different from the other. However, some timeless questions regarding justice, truth, ethics crop up every time on such occasions. They are eternal questions of philosophy, which all the time go on creating concentric circles of answers, while the core of the questions remains the same. And very similar is the behavior of the establishment at such times, which tries to perpetuate such confusion, for its vested interests. |

Some two thousand three hundred years back, Greek society was standing at cross roads, suffering from confusion and rampant corruption. A philosopher called Socrates lived in such times. It was a life dedicated to the search of truth, and the practice of virtues that emerged from this truth. He believed that the knowledge of truth, and one's behavior in accordance with this knowledge, were basic necessities of human life. Such a man is always seen as "Dangerous" by the establishment, and such "danger" is always removed by the Socrates. He was accused with fabricated charges, and was given death sentence. He accepted the sentence remaining faithful to the ethical norms he had followed all his life. Even in such dark times there always are people who have seen the sun. The thoughts they preach keep on inspiring the unjust system. That is precisely why Socrates thoughts, his satyagraha and his death become relevant for us today. That is the central theme of the play. |
